Curling strategy can be very complex. Most skips learn strategy by a combination of applying basic principles, watching a lots of games, and years of trial and error. The situations described in this quiz are meant to help skips think about various situations before they face them on the ice.

There is no "right answer" for a lot of these, but there are better choices and poorer choices. Decisions about which choice is the right one for you depends not only on the situation in the game, but may also depend the skills of your players, the ice conditions, the skills of your opponent, and your game plan. I encourage players to discuss why they chose an option, what the response of the other team might be to each one, and what you would do next in response.

My plan is to put a few of these situations up per week. I will try to include at least some interesting real situations from games each week. Anyone who would like to offer a quiz question, contact me and I'll see if I can add it to the list.

I will provide my answers to these with some commentary. Comments, questions, corrections, alternative solutions, etc are always welcome.

Assumptions
